Gilbert Udoto
Founder | Board Chairman
Gilbert Urandu Udoto is a Kenyan-born entertainment mogul, entrepreneur, and community leader whose influence spans across the United States and his home country of Kenya. Born into the Abanyala culture of Kakamega County, Kenya, Gilbert moved to the U.S. to attend Albany State University (ASU) in 1977. During his time at ASU, he became well-known for his involvement in various sound activities and built strong relationships with the faculty. It was here that his entrepreneurial spirit first took flight, leading to the ownership of multiple clubs and the hosting of major concerts and festivals across the U.S. He graduated in 1980.
Throughout his life, Gilbert has been committed to giving back to his community, embodying the moral principle that "you cannot eat while your neighbor is hungry." His dedication to service led him to establish "Friends Of The University," which he later expanded into the "Albany Cares Group", a collaborative effort with local churches and community leaders to uplift those in need. Gilbert’s philanthropic efforts also extend to Kenya, where he founded the Udoto Cup in 1987. The event has grown to cover over 30,000 participants, providing a platform for youth and community engagement.
As Chairman of the Albany Cares Group, Gilbert brings a unique blend of passion, high moral standards, and cultural integrity to his leadership. His book Abanyala ba Kakamega: A Historical and Cultural Perspective offers insight into his rich cultural heritage and lineage from Kakamega County, further solidifying his role as a bridge between cultures. A visionary entrepreneur and tireless advocate for unity, Gilbert continues to inspire and make a lasting impact on both his local and global communities.
